I have to say, Joe Rogan helped a lot in it supplying some lingo and ideas on what to research. Then again, I hate him for giving the term "chess match" to Goldberg, who really should be switched for someone better.
Rogan helped me understand the sport too. He knows the ground game well enough that he can spot when a fighter starts to change position (or leaves an opening) and can call out submission and passing attempts ahead of time. It was that part of his commentating that helped me see the strategy involved in sub. grappling.

Also, one more vote for firing Goldberg; he's really getting on my nerves.

There is a solution to this problem. My younger brother and I were watching a UFC with a friend of ours who understands nothing of this BJJ and wrestling stuff, and so he began to question why the guys were rolling around on the ground instead of hitting each other. My brother (BJJ whitebelt) immmediately pulled guard and triangle choked him for a few seconds, then let the hold go and said "That's why."

As much as most of your posts irritate me, and the fact that you beat up chicks and then attempt to take them to transformers and tea after to get laid, I agree with you. I remember when the UFC started to become popular. I had already been following most of the MMA style fights, and had buddy's that fought locally. So when UFC went mainstream and everyone started wearing tapout and sprawl shorts to work out in, it became clear to me. We have another WWE in the making. All anyone wants is blood. If someone gives a hell of a fight, but doesn't knock the **** out of the opponent, or bloody him up, the fight was just "ok".

Never mind the fact that it really starts to get interesting for me when it goes to the ground,. Thats when I hear the most boo's at comps and watching it at bars. There is always that jack ass that says "why doesn't he just go for a RNC!" and calling it an "RNC". Apparently choke doesn't make him sound cool enough. And they just re-shout what idiot Rogan or Goldberg says.... BUT I think that you are always going to have a deviding line between those who train, and at least somewhat understand whats going on, from the passer by who buys each UFC to act tough.

At the San Diego cage fighting venue (Total Combat) you hear all sorts of retarded things from the crowd. When one fighter pulled guard and didn't do much else but adjust his position for a while, the guy next to me starts yelling "Just punch him in the face!". A step worse is the guy that knows some of the lingo but is still retarded, so one guy will be mounted and some ass will yell "Triangle choke!".
I heard some similar foolishness at the last Dog Brothers gathering, too. That disappointed me a lot more.

    Hilarious.

Last night on IFL Battleground during a match the camera cut to a rather rotund gentleman with bloodlust in his eyes screaming "Kick him! KICK! HIM!" Good call my boy, I'm sure that never would have occurred to him had you not been there...

I think it boils down to what people here have observed. MMA isn't just being watching by martial artists anymore. It's also being watched by "Joe Six-Pack Sports Fan" in increasing numbers. Go to a sports bar on a Sunday and you'll hear equally ridiculous **** being yelled at football games. One time I was at a bar during a football game and every time someone ran with the ball a guy would yell out "WALK! WALK!" I guess it makes sense to them.

I hadn't thought that DBMA gatherings had attracted enough mainstream attention to have spectators outside of the FMA community.

Disapointing, suprising and fucking depressing. I would have never imagined something like that happening at a DB gathering. :icon_sad:

The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris
