Could simply be a legacy of their JKD heritage.
I mean, WC could simply amount to the centerline theory and straight blast, and trapping range could be used in the same way a lot of PFS guys use it, in referring to the range of elbows, head butts and knees aka. the clinch
But yeah, considering the instructor has his instructorship in WC, its unlikely.

Some people aren't in it to spar hard and grapple and just wan to get fit and pretend they're learning to fight. Gotta cater for all sorts in this game.
If they do have sparring and grappling it should be worth checking out if it's as conveneient as you say. If there's no contracts and you're savvy in the least what have you got to lose? -
