Yrkoon got to that before me. Yeah, opposite side sumi gaeshi. He does basically a 180 in the air.

what sacrifice were you doing before? sumi gaeshi can be a pretty dangerous throw as far as difficulty, his far leg might also be too far away to actually catch.

a quick, high rotation uchi mata would be my first thought, rotating with your opponent. the other is that this position is basically the grips that the thread "low ogoshi" start with, so that's another option. another is tani otoshi, but for safety of uke, you might want to control their near side elbow so they don't try to post out on it, their weight is likely a bit forward on their toes, so a slight pull/jerk forward should get them rocking back, at which time you'd throw tani.

I'm guessing here but I know if someone was gripping me like that the first thing I'd want to do is turn in to them for fear of being taken backwards with a sacrifice throw, that could open them up to an osotogari if you step your right foot out a bit but it would be a weird grip.

Edit: Also, you would maybe have an opening for a soto makikomi (sp?) if they pulled their left arm out and put it round your back in an attempt to take you over backwards?

How stable is the position, do you usually only get a second or so in it or can you hold it for a while? Just curious because it looks like they could pull their left arm free fairly easily unless you can kill some of the power generated at the shoulder with your right arm by stopping them pull it back to quickly.

You can always T-step your way in from that angle. It gives it a little more explosive power too.

Another possibility, although probably a lower percentage one, is a drop seionage. Similar to the duck-in entry for kata garuma, but you basically cross the box, taking your left foot to meet uke's left foot then spin directly into the throw, switching your grip of course. I've heard the entry from the side like that called a cuban-entry. In my experience, something like that needs to be quick or uke may just hop around you.

that's actually.... kind of an awkward kata guruma. here's a kata guruma off a grip similar to yours, only he has one sleeve instead of a behind the back and sleeve.

I really like the uki-waza from this position. Grab his left sleeve, the end, with your left hand, and draw it under the armpit. Grab across his back with your right hand. Now, take a big step in with your left foot. He should be torqued over. Then go and sacrifice.

The key is the big step in with the left foot to torque him over. If he's not all twisted up, he can spin out on you, or, if he is a certain black belt haraigoshi specialist of my acquaintence, he can hit you with a left harai just as you come in.

Judo is only gentle for the guy on top.

It most definitely looks like that yes.
    :icon_chee

Anyways the sacrifice throw I used to do from here looks a lot like this technique

Except instead of grabbing the leg I would keep the grip of the sleeve the whole way.

    *** raise hand ***

I see people suggesting uchimata from that grip. But on that picture, attacking dude is grabbing the other dude's left arm with his left hand, across his chest. Even while grabbing the back, the other guy's arm across the chest looks a bit arkward for a uchi mata. Shouldn't he dragged that arm and then go for the right sleeve or shoulder, to have more leverage for uchimata?
