    DISLOCATED RIBS/I LIKE TYPING IN CAPS

    OK, so this is the 2nd time i dislocated my ribs this morning, the firstg was back in may. I trained in muay thai for like a few weeks and then i dislocated my ribs for the first time, i thogujht it was cuz of the bed because it had a big indention on it so the bed wasnt flat. So anyways after a a month to a month and a half's worth of visits to the chiropracter i started again for 1 or 2 weeks, but nothing happened and then i stoped for a month's vacation to thailand. and then i started again on august 30th or so, and i dislocated it again this morning, and its been about 2 weeks. so do you think it could be from the muay thai classes? from the hip movements or the thai pads where someone kicks too hard and imm holding it wrong? i really wanna get this problem solved because i dont wanna give up on muay thai, and i just started on 2 classes of jiu jitsu which i dont wanna give up either, and i have a 1 year contract for both..

    Can someone tell me how you actualy dislocate ribs in the first place?

    I'd say consult your doctor/ chiro on the Muay thai classes. See what they say. Mabey theres a particular position you can avoid or just go easy on them until the muscle builds enough for it to stop.
    That being said i honestly didn't know you could dislocate ribs... I thought they just broke- but i'm no expert.

    syberia - want to check my screwed up ribs? Its not so much dislocate as subluxate.

    Purpleskunk - I REALLY, really feel you on this one. Mine slip out randomly, its a pain in the arse. Ever since I fractured a few, they haven't been the same. To be honest, I shunned going to the doctor as much as possible as they'll say 'rest' or 'stop doing MA'. Riiiight.

    When I get a really serious chest infection, the coughing alone is enough for certain ribs to slip. It hurts a little but you get used to it and its kinda cool to feel your ribs and the retarded positions they can go into.

    AVOID the chiro if they haven't fixed it within 2-3 sessions. Some subluxations are minor and will go back into place on their own, some need chiropractic manipulation but if you don't see an improvement after that amount of time I'd say go get an x-ray and see a sports specialist if you can.

    Plus you've signed CONTRACTS for your clubs?? Hmmm...

    (oh and P.S. - work on proper breathing without too much expansion of your ribs and core strength, I find this has helped a bit)

    Oh, ok. I believe both of you, i'd just never heard it before and was just wondering how it happend. I have a nice mental picture now. :)

    well i was just walking and BAM an outburst of sharp pain and then it hurt for the rest of the it hurts in every position possible, sitting kneeling, taking off shirt, pants, puting them on and getting up, moving arm, walking, i have to stay in this one awkward as hell position for it to hurt a tad bit which is the least itll hurt, breating and coughing hurts, laughing hurts even more especially after reading some of the threads. i went to the chiro today, he said it MIGHT be from moy toy... <-- ........ anyways he said that i was resisting too much cause of pain to do anything, so he tried a different method with some jack hammer like gun, with a re-examination tomarrow. so thats why i asked whats the cause i mean what the hell right..

    and its like a 1 year contract for a cheaper price for classes at fairtex, not to be a fighter or anything.. gonna try and work on the breathing but it hurts like hell..

    I've torn intercostal muscles, and dislocated a floating rib before. When I did it put me out of training for over a year. I seem to be ok now. I just recently injured the same ribs playing no-gi judo grapple dummy, but the intercostals seem to have held up and the rib didn't pop out - just hairline fracture. It will probably take a good six motnhs before they come completely right, but I'm easing my way back into training. I don't want to lose the gains I've made, which took so long after my last injury to recoup.

    wow ! thats good and bad to hear.. imm hapyp that your recovering and back into training, but imm sad that it took so long. what did you do to fix it?

    Not much to be honest. originally I strapped it, but that didn't really seem to help. Shallow breath and time seem to be the only real cure.

    I hope you recover quickly.

    I dislocated mine trying to escape an armbar. I went to a Chiro to get it put back. His manipulation was annoying but what helped was the elastic tape he put on it. It covered my whole ribcage on that side and really held it in. I took 6 weeks off and rested it very carefully. It drove me crazy to take that much time off but I needed every day of it. This was over 6 months ago. I still have a lump and am really defensive in Knee on belly.



    PS: As far as the contract goes. Tell them about the injury and ask if you can suspend your contract for 2 months. That way you won't be changing the total contract length but you also won't be paying for time you can't use because of an injury.

    Ok; short question.

    How exactly do you dislocate SEVERAL LONG, SPEAR-LIKE OBJECTS in your THORACIC CAVITY without coming down with a bad case of DEAD?

    I mean, holy shiatsu batman, that sounds like something you call an ambulance and end up on an episode of ER for.
