    And as Necroth pointed out, only static IP addresses can be traced to actual locations. Most public ISPs (except for some DSL providers) use DHCP to hand out a rotating pool IP addresses so they don't have to reserve an address for every single user that they sign up. So most of the time (unless you're doing stupid stuff on your PC at work), your IP address will change every couple of days anyway.
