Thanks for the review!
Have you examined the scoring guidelines for school reviews found here?
http://www.bullshido.net/forums/showthread.php?t=48577
A 6 in Striking instruction indicates "Comprehensive striking (all ranges) or superior single range striking with success in local/regional competition"
Similarly, a 9 in Grappling instruction indicates "Pressure-tested, full range grappling and proven success in limited restriction, top level competitions". Bearing in mind that local/regional competitions are not considered "top-level" where does the club currently compete?Dave

No problem at all.
Thanks again for the review! These are especially helpful for college clubs. That's the first direct exposure some people get to MA in general.
Do students or coaches from any local schools train with the club? Are there any BJJ purple belts, Golden Gloves or pro boxers, HS or collegiate wrestlers, Judo black belts, etc. there? What's the typical turnout?
Do you get student organization funds from the University for raging keggers?Dave

I think we have a couple bjj purples that train elsewhere the rest of the week. No pro boxers tho. Occasionally some Judokas. Spring semester of this year there were about 20 guys training ranging from complete noobs to guys to seasoned fighters (Hook 'N Shoot, BattleJax etc). A few of these guys also train at the F2 Arena here in gainesville which is a NHB fight team. I trained at F2 a few years ago but it's been such a long time, that I couldn't give an accurate review. I will go check it out again soon and give a review. Main reason I left was the cleanliness was non-existant. Canvas mat never got clean, got ring worm once, and a staph infection another time from the mats I believe. Lots of people go through that facility so I am sure the mats were disgusting (blood stained etc).
P.S. no student funds for keggers -- if anyone found out about that, we would be disolved -

Valetudo, I'm Jerry from UF kickboxing. The matts are indeed disgusting. We try to clean it off every once in a while but a lot of clubs use the matt.
There are very good guys at UF MMA who come from well-known BJJ schools. If you have somewhat of a background already, I recommend UFMMA. -

I'm a freshman at the University of Florida. I have no real mma experience outside of a few weeks of wrestling practice with my high school. However, I am interested in beginning mma training, and I know that I am close to the necessary athleticism, and I am definitly willing to work at creating my skills. Is this "UF MMA" an actual UF club that is on campus?

Treswm,
no neceessary level of athleticism in martial arts. Its all hard work.
Go on facebook and look for the following clubs:
UF MMA and UF Kickboxing as well as the Wrestling club.
At UF, generally if you want submission grappling, you go to UF MMA club. If you want striking, UF Kickboxing is where its at. Wrestling club is very very good, just short of an actual collegiate wrestling team. Go to all the clubs if you want to make your all-around game. All the clubs are made up of fighters. -

Search UF Kickboxing. If it doesn't come up, email ufkickboxing at gmail dot com.
