Take Your Kid Shooting
It's been proven that keeping kids ignorant of guns is the best way to get them accidentally shot when they happen to come across them.
So if you've got guns in your house, yes, keep them properly and securely stored. But go above and beyond and teach a healthy respect for firearms, and a thorough understanding for how they work. Kids love mysteries, and if you treat your guns as something magical that they should never touch, that's the first thing they're going to try to get their hands on when you're out of sight.
But mostly this is just an excuse to post a video of my daughter popping off rounds at the range.
I agree with you 110 freaking percent!
I grew up around firearms and was taught about them from a young age, as were my cousins. There as never been an acident in our family.
My daughter is only 1 1/2 years old, but you better believe that I will have her at the range in a few years time!
Can't agree more. My father always had many, many firearms around the house (as did my grandfather) and I started shooting when I was very young. Kids (and adults) who are unfamiliar with guns can be an absolute menace to themselves and everyone around them.
Also, that's freaking adorable.

I agree with you wholeheartedly.
My Dad took me hunting when I was little, and got me used to guns at the range. He also shot a watermelon with a high powered rifle, just to give a visceral example of their power.

Cracky, she's young, give her time to get better.
I also agree. I grew up around guns, and had gone shooting since I was very young. I'd rather have my children be knowledgeable and respectful of weapons, as opposed to having them get hurt because they didn't know what they were doing and playing around in a dangerous manner. And I collect swords, knives, and pretty soon guns, so that is going to be a major issue. Looks like some kenjutsu/iaido lessons are in the works as soon as they're old enough.
What age should you start teaching kids about guns?
If you never teach anyone how to use guns then all gun violence would be abated.
