    I love this line in the opening post;

    ...it seems like resistance is a moot point when they are performing their techniques, since they look like they would be very hard to resist.
    It's good that we have it established that these techniques are too effective to resist, so we don't have to go though all that messy business of training against resistance.

    Hmm not what I meant but fair enough.

    Obviously the ability to do the moves against resistance is the only way to know if they can be done against resistance. I clearly overstated my case, but whatever.

    More in line with what I was thinking at the time is that the way certain techniques are performed would certainly be hard to resist (see my previous refence to clothesline). I certainly wasn't trying to say that this was somehow the magic Aikido bullet that made Aikido work, I mostly thought it was interesting, and it didn't seem like it was discussed much.

    Also dispite the fact that some of the moves look akward, and others certainly still look like they are typical aikido demonstartion stuff, it does have many of the aspects that I think are missing from many Aikido (especially Aiki) schools.
    Like taking the initiative, doing the moves like you mean to defeat the other guy, and actually teaching people how to throw a punch. So that's all.

    Does anyone actually know anything else about this martial-art fork other than what is in these videos and the few comments made on the forum? Has anyone seen any of these practitioners in real life?

    Edit: formatting disagreement. Stupid beta operating system.

    I think its important to keep two things in mind.

    1. LARPing per sť isn't wrong provided:

    - Those doing the LARPing aren't doing so in some misguided or mislead fashion which would lead them to believe and proclaim they have the d33d1y.

    - Aikido isn't generally intended as a combative discipline.. We all know that and, those who claim to study purely aikido for precisely combative perposes should, in truth, grow up.

    2. Aikido techniques applied whilst holding a weapon such as a knife or sword suddenly appear to make a great deal of sense from the perspective of purpose, the "Aliveness" we hear so much about on this website is evident; in that the person attempting to prevent the free use of the weapon (in the hands of the aikidoka) will be doing their very best no to let go of the hand/arm which they have seized - Letting go means getting cut under those specific set of circumstances.. The person with the weapon will do their very best to counter and utilise that weapon... this is aliveness but not as we know it Jim...

    If I remember, on Thursday in next class I'll take some video of basic technique with and without a sword or knife, all done from the classical sense - neither of which will have any (direct) use what so ever in terms of today's self defence. Iíll post it here.
