There are some really retarded rules that basically discourage defense and make it more of a glorified toughman fight. It's pretty stupid.

Edit: Namely, no clinching, no stalling, no passivity. Basically the rules penalize footwork, circling, proper defense, counterpunching, and anything else that makes a stand up fight more than just rushing forward throwing as many punches and kicks as possible.

So, leg kick, clinch, knee, release (they only allow a single knee in clinch, and then you must release).

You're thinking of K-1. WCL does not allow clinching at all.

I think you're right, they allow grab/knee, but only one knee and you must release or the penalty etc. It's an odd format.

I will give Chuck's league a chance but have never seen it on. Also I am just not crazy about this whole Team concept. It seems to take the focus off the individual fighters. It's the same reason I can not get into watching IFL.

From a striker's standpoint I enjoy the action, but the split round thing is just bizarre. The short rounds and penalties for 'thinking' seems odd too. The ring shape is just out there. But hey, there are guys kicking the **** out of each other, I'll watch.

Man.. As a striker this is kind of fun to watch, but .. The more you limit striking, the flashier it is going to become, simply because you have less to worry about. That's why people like Sirkan Yilmaz are able to woop ass from time to time. . . however, he lost his MMA match, did not look comfortable at all either. Why? because he had more to think about.

Seriously, people outta create "modern ninjutsu league" not buji, but some REAL contact Ninja jitsu.

-Punished if you aren't crouching in your stance with your head down looking badass.
-Kicks that are used without doing a backflip or frontflip prior to executing the technique will be used no more than 3 times per round, or the fighter will be disqualified.
-Punching is not allowed, only palms and death fingers.
-Any use of grappling, hair pulling, or any "cheap" shots = disqualification.

I'm serious, they could really do it. Full contact XMA.
