    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    What gun to buy?

I'm looking for a good gun, as close to these specs as possible:

Rifle/carbine (not sure which would be better)
Common, inexpensive caliber, but with some stopping power
Durable and easy to maintain (this is pretty important)
ACCURATE (what good is a gun that you can't hit the broad side of a barn with?)
Cost is a consideration, but the least important issue. I can always save up for it.

Edit: Not to knock my own thread off topic, but I'm thinking we may have taken the "BJJ is gay" threads too far- look at the ads up there.

    Edit again: Gone now.

Haha, hopefully nothing. I'm purchasing a 10/22 for target shooting, but that wouldn't be as useful in a situation where I really needed a gun. It's very much a just-in-case thing.

So you want it for personal defense?

Unless you plan to defend yourself against an attacker at 100 yards, I'm not sure why your one gun for self defense would be a rifle.

Buy a shotgun. Short barrel. 12 gauge. Decision over.

AR-15s are damn sexy guns, however I've heard that they are really hard to maintain because of the number of parts and small pins and springs that go everywhere when you open it up. Do you know if this is true? Because other than that they look pretty nice.

Nope. Not at all. You can take one apart in probably 7 seconds (bolt included)

Hunting rifles are not designed to take apart and clean that often. The more you do the more you wear them out, parts loosen up etc.

AR15s are designed to be used then stripped down then put back together.

That's a lesson plan on the field strip of a C7 (AR15), I'll try and find pictures if you want. Very easy.
