I'm curious.. Can you say how the submission trends go? I mean, what submissions are the most common these days, and are there any differences to the past?
Curiosity killed the cat. But damn it had a blast.

What are the top Five Submissions?

    I'm guessing Armbar / RNC / Kimura / Triangle / Strikes?

I'd bet the guillotine is the most common submission in MMA.

As of about two years ago it was the RNC. I assume the same is true now.

According to Sherdog, it's basically a tie between the RNC and armbar.

Interesting, RNC's were far ahead of other subs when I last saw these sorts of numbers.
Makes sense, RNCs are going to be more common with shoddier opposition (gnp to turn over to rnc).

However, I know for certain, due to inconsistent data, some of those are wrong. I suspect that armbar is actually number one, and triangle is higher.

As far as I understand, the number of RNCs also went down quite a bit when gloves were introduced/used for most events.

RNCs probably also went down when strikes to the back of the head were banned. With that not allowed you can focus more on defending the choke instead of having to split your defense.

I would expect that decrease in submissions could also be attributed to faster standups these days. If you don't have as much time to work for a submission you're less likely to get it.

I wouldn't be surprised if armbar is the top submission as it's a logical transition from strikes from mount.

You're also going to have a problem with some chokes and locks resulting in TKOs.
