    teen joining at adult bjj

I just found a good gym that rents a place and has two, two hour class of bjj/Sub wrestling classes a week. I emailed the instructer and told him im 15 he said that they have small adults their and to come try a free class. I was just wondering what you guys think about a teen joining an adult bjj gym. Is anyone here in a similar situation?

I was 15 when I started doing karate. I was the small guy in with a bunch of adults. It worked out fine. Right now I've got a student who just turned 16 in with the adults I train.

Just go and work hard. Don't be too goofy and it'll be fine.

Yeah I wouldn't worry, we have a guy who started when he was 16 and another who is 17. I can't see it being a problem.

We have a small kid who's 15 in our club, he rolls with the adults no problem.

I'm a small 16 year old and I roll (sorry get destroyed) by the adults just fine. Just go, like every n00b you'll get owned the first few months but it's all good

as long as you're not fifteen going on twelve, it should be fine. i'd also get the instructor's philosophy on submissions used on minors - we've got a rule saying no using wristlocks, neck cranks, or leg locks on anyone under 18 while rolling, for instance, and no cranking of anything against under 16's. good practice for the adults, actually.

(i'm not saying look for those particular rules - i'm just saying make sure the instructor has put specific thought into the matter, one way or another)

I just did this last week. Just don't worry and act mature and everything should be ok.

Instructors tend to look after newbies if you're young anyways (I know mine did). You should also mention your age and you might get money off classes (I know I do).

16 is when kids are allowed to start taking the adult classes at my school.

so... i guess my opinion of your situation is... "okay. good for you."
