    Knife-centric FMA

I'm wondering if there are any branches of Arnis/Kali/FMA that are more knife centric and less single/double stick centric. As much as I have enjoyed training with sticks, I have always found the knife work in FMA fascinating, and must more applicable to modern day living.

So, if anyone knows of a branch or better yet a school teaching knife-centric FMA (ideally in NY) please let me know. Thanks

Pekiti Tirsia, Sayoc and Atienza all jump out in regards to this. The Pitbulls might be a good place to start. Selfcritical is a part of PTK so he may know of someone better in the area.

Ok, they seem to be out of White Plains NY, which is unfortunately the wrong side of the state for me. But they seem to be what I'm looking for, just too far from home.

single-double stick directly relates to knife-fighting. Look up Doce Pares, there may be one in your area.

I understand this, but based on my experience in my old Kali school Single/Double stick is the focus, and knife work takes a back seat.

I've asked my Guro for more specific knife-training, even cane. I can see walking with a cane or pocket knife, though when Guro walks his dog he carries a stick. He used it against a mugger once and the mugger actually filed charges against him. Only in Oakland...

    Wow, that sucks.

I tried asking my Guro for more knife work and he got pissed at me and told me not to disrespect him. I'm no longer with the school.

Why the hell did he do that? Maybe he was just in a bad mood that day.

No, that was fairly normal for him. I left over a similar incident. But thats neither here, nor there.

Naszir, NYC... again, is the wrong side of the state....... but, given the link I found an instructor on the right sight of the state, namely Rochester.

He has a WC background *rolls eyes* but we all have our failings. He's an ex Guro Dan guy as well, same as my old Guro. Hopefully he's a little more forward thinking. I'll drop him a line and report back.
