    ATT:MMA fighters - Gold Coast

Not sure where the appropriate place to post this was. If this is not the right place, I'd be grateful if one of the mods could relocate it for me.

Here on the Gold Coast, the guys from Five Rings Dojo (Home of Nathan "Carnage" Corbett and Hector "Shango" Lombard) are putting on a series of amateur MMA events at a local PCYC (Police-Citizens Youth Club).

Fighters of all styles and experience levels are invited to participate.

Bouts will take place in a ring.

Various rulesets are available - C class (Full headgear and shin pads, no striking on the ground), B class (no strikes to the head while on the ground), or A class (full mma rules). Special rulesets are available - i.e. sub-grappling exibition matches , Muay that, and modified Thai rules, etc.

Number and duration of rounds are open to negotiation.

If anyone is interested and lives in the south-east of Queensland, send me a PM and I'll hook you up with the promoters. Obviosuly, it's a bit late for the event this Sunday, but the next one wil be organised in a number of weeks.

Alternatively, contact me if you are interested in attending one of the events. They're extremely cheap (approximately $20 or so), and there will be some very skillful fighters showcasing their talents. The events are Alcohol Free, which I've found to be a plus as you are less likely to be subjected to witticisms like "get a room" or "Stick it in" during the grappling component of a bout.

Big Jim hit me up about it this morning, but the notice is somewhat short for me, and I'm kinda out of the MMA mindset these days too. I'm still sparring, but I'm more focused on judo now. I'm finding it surprisingly difficult to adapt to tachiwaza, but very enjoyable.

I told Jim I'd possibly enter the next one, but there's some really strong guys over 90 kg, and as you'd remember I'm fairly mellow. Maybe I should try and drop down to below 85....

Alternatively I'd probably do a grappling match, regardless of weight, just because it would be good fun.

Also, my GF doesn't like it when I get punched in the face for some reason. I get no sympathy.

Well, I'll probably be up there around Christmas time. If you've got an event around then I might be interested after a few more months of consistent training.

    Keep me posted.

Sweet. I'd look forward to training with you again. You'll be impressed with the scene here on the Coast. Combat sports are thriving.

I wasn't able to attend the fights due to personal commitments this time, but all reports have been very positive.

Paraphrased from the official thread over on infiniteMMA:

    C Class Shooto:
Chris Isac defeated Glen Fraser via TKO (Towel Thrown In)
Simon Clough defeated Shane Williams via Submission (Arm-enclosed Choke)
Matty Pennisi defeated Seth Tarrant via KO (Knee).

    B Class Shooto Rules:
    Nelson Stewart DREW Kei Iwasaki.
Sergio defeated Miter Almeida via Decision.
    Gustavo Falcioli DREW Jai Bradney.

Not sure about the other fights.

The buzz is that the next event will be even bigger and better. Daniel Lima and Roy Luxton have a stellar reputation both for their fighting ability, and the caliber of shows they put on. They are doing a lot to promote the growth of Australian MMA.
