Is it some secret technique that makes you think "I'm gonna blend with the forum. I'm harmoniously clicking the new thread button and I'm typing something non-violent, yet (I hope) engaging"?

It's the hakama, isn't it? Something mesmerising about those special pantaloons?

It's the extra tight penis straps you have to put on to wear one that riles em up!!!

On a serious note, regardless of the effectiveness or applicability of technique when I did Aikdio (Yoshinkan) we had a serious work out. and it was a very physical and exhausting class.

And that was at a time I was 30 pounds lighter and in way better shape.

Aikido doesn't have to be easy or painless.

No. It's like teaching the person how to swim, but leaving it up to them to build the stamina to swim the English channel. If you are too much of a lazy ass to get out and do the work yourself, why should someone else responsible for you? It's a martial arts class, not personal fitness training at the gym.

Fair enough. Simple answer. I'm still learning how, with their help, to react to what a judo or bjj person might do if and when they get me to the ground. Obviously, there is a lot to contend with. I've got a lot to learn about.

Another simple one. I'm just a peace-luvin'-granola-crunchy. Seriously, I'm not interested in kicking ass, and trying to learn how not to hurt the other guy appeals to me.

Indeed. Those techniques which remain within both aikido and Daito Ryu are all but identical, what has changed is the intention behind the physical application, this is by and large due to the mass-multi-interpretation of Ueshiba Morihei's own ideologies.

That and the fact that most people who study aikido are tree hugging fucking hippies.

    This is alien to me.

Surely, "how do destroy attacker" is a much more valid (and attractive) question?

Wow. I hope my instructor doesn't turn into a hippy and start teaching tree hugging ****.

You need to explain how the physical act of a *key words>>> martial art is learning not how to hurt.

What many (if not almost all) aikidoka fail to grasp is that ideology and philosophy should be developed through continuous physical training which serves a useful purpose.

Yeah, but if someone decides to take that freedom away from you... wouldn't knowing how to smash their stupid faces in while breaking their wrists, fingers etc be a bit more useful than a jolly little bit of tai sabaki and a "hey, let's meditate on this guys"?
    I mean.

you guys should read the thread title better: CANDID talk about aikido...
things i want to see posted here:

'Hi, im Sochin101 and i practise aikido, my lover left me and i fled in this world of make believe so i wouldnt have to face the harsh reality, now i understand this will get me nowhere, perhaps only a firm asskicking.'

Dr. Lebell:'Welcome sochin101, admitting you have a problem is the first step to a cure, who's next?'

'Hey guys, im im spartacus,i used to do aikido for years and years and even got so deluded i started teaching that stuff,so i guess you can call me a pusher, im not proud of this but i did redeem myself to a certain extend: i have send all my students away, gave their money back and set fire to my school.
In time i want to pick up boxing so i can finally stand up to my 12 year old daughter who usually slaps me around everytime she demands a bigger allowance.'

Dr. Lebell: 'wow that was pretty la....openhearted,welcome i'm spartacus.'

'Hai guiz my name is cullion and i do tai chi, you can use it in full contact too!'

Dr. Lebell: 'Please **** off im not mother Teresa..'
