    I do know it isn't something to be forced. I had my guy in half guard and went he sat back on me I shot up and over for his free ankle and that's when he nailed me with the elbow.

    Here's a down n nasty picture walk through. Starting in half guard on the outside. Then with the ankle secured under arm. Then the leg warped up. Then rotating to the head. Don't mind the big ass. it's freakishly tall girl friend of my wifes and she was foolish enough to play model.

    So you're finishing without inserting anything in between ala calf slicer?

    Have you tried moving into this position when your opponent is already putting weight on your head, or only when they're sitting up like denim cheeks over there?

    Edit: Ok, I forgot about your original description and thought your emphasis was on the trapped knee, but now I'm assuming that you're just using that as a control position to separate the two legs like a delicious banana split. Except that you're using your half guard to immobilize your opponent's far leg and the twist to create pressure. Correct?

    Honestly, the way you've got it it seems like the person trapped should be able to extend their leg and get free.

    If you wrapped over their ankle instead, you'd be doing some sort of modified half-crab with a leg control, but really if they put their foot there you're better off just going for a figure-four toehold. More secure and fewer escape options.

    UMMMM... yeah... kinda. I kinda get what you are saying but kinda don't. Sorry, never having any fromal submission grappling has me at the disadvantage trying to mentally picture decriptions. I guess I am using the half guard as my anchor in that keeping the other leg/hip as imobile as possible makes rotating the other leg that much more painfull. The movement emphasis on the other leg (folded back and trapped) is more down on the ankle and up on the knee as I roll to the head and not so much pulling the leg out in a split.

    I definetly get what you are saying about being able to pull out of it by simply extending your leg. And if the person on top is staying low and keeping upper body pressure on you it's almost impossible to get their leg folded back. But I have had my best luck getting the leg trapped after say a failed sweep attempt to that legs side where the guy on top bases out and especially if he sits up in my half guard. Because when they are in that up position their leg is already half way to where you want it. And so far when I have gotten the leg so far as to being trapped I haven't had anybody wiggle out of it. Not to say it can't or won't happen. That's why I posted this to see if there is a valid point to this position or if is more risk than i need to take.
