Why do these combos include intercepting punches with your feet, when the punches where goping to miss anyway?
doesn't look very realistic of efficient training method to me

It's not... For some reason I put one step sparring in the same ring as demo teams and the other TKD bs. along with the "Hi-ya" and other retarded Kiai you hear. with zero resistance there is VERY little chance, of anyone actually getting these off. I think its more tradition. Just another notch on my I LOVE TAEKWONDO belt....

I hate when it gopes.

I was wondering where goping is.

I can never really tell whether Kickcatcher is goping or comping.
One step sparring drills like this were never designed to be "realistic" in the first place.
It is not unreasonable to ask what is the nature of these drils, whether the particular practitioners in that video understand it, and whether there might be better ways to achieve the same purpose. After all, this is supposed to be one of the purposes of this sub-forum.
And, while I could probably give satisfactory answers and beat downs to TKD nutridders better than some TKD people who never progress beyond one step sparring, there are a few TKDers on this board whom I suspect can explain these things far better than an outsider to TKD like myself.
Regardless, it is very possible you used up any goodwill you might have had with them. So, you might be stuck with continuing trying to figure out how to sneak as many subtle "LOL! pen1s!!!!!!1111" threads into this sub-forum for the time being.

Calm down, it's only ones and zeros.

I don't understand moving the arms back before moving them forward. Why is that? There. That is an honest question.

What's really sad, is that for one steps, these were done really well. Srsly. Those guys looked sharp. So, the fact that this, as a drill, appears to be completely useless for developing any realistic fighting skill is very damning.

I guess its the same idea as Kata... The idea being that it creates muscle memory which "IN THEORY" in a real situation, if a punch were to come at you, your body would react to it quicker. The problem is that no one punches like they are in that video, and sometimes they come from other angles than straight on with an arm chambered. I HATE one steps... and when I do them, I always try to make it as "alive" as possible by having the other student not punch in a traditional manner, and NOT let me do them so easily.
That said.... One steps still suck ass... period. I would much rather free spar and try to use the techniques from the one steps.

This video clip has completely transformed my opinion of TaeKwonDo grappling and one step sparring :)
It is, as the clip says, advanced.
