I've seen all the standing locks and generally similar moves in TKD classes although I wonder to what extent they are Hapkido influenced, or at least copied from mainstream jujitsu/Chi-na based "self-defence". Never seen the wrist throw specifically but I suspect that's because it requires great skill in throwing yourself which is more time than any TKD club I've ever trained at spends on SD - much rather spend the time working on flashy kicks.

Actually, it was the technique more than the "skirt."

Ok, let's get a few things straight here. The defender in the picture is Su In Joo, a 9TH DEGREE black belt in KUK SOOL WON. The technique in question is an advanced self defense movement used by high degree black belts . Only high degree black belts can effectively learn and use this because they have a strong foundation in throws and joint locks. The technique is NOT for the standard self defense nut or the average kickboxer looking for some simple grappling. As for the technique's effectiveness, it's supposed to be done in a fast and fluid motion and the attacker is caught an painful wrist lock so he can't effectively counter attack. This shouldn't be a problem for KSW masters. If you want to use this technique well, you just have to undergo years of KSW training. IF not, just simply ignore what you saw and just go on with with your life.

Is this a joke post or are you serious?

What is th logic of using "advanced" (i.e. highly skill depedant) for self-defence?

high level it may be, but it doesn't look feasible. an attacker with sense would probably deliver the choke much less space between himself and the defender, meaning that the defender wouldn't have enough space to bend backwards and escape from the choke. also, a strong attacker would probably just be able to straighten out his/her arm and punch the defender in the face.

and looking at the pics again, if i were the defender id just step in really fast and hip throw the guy.
