    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    A question about Kwon unification.

Why did the South Korean government force the various kwons to unify into one style. I mean I know that did that because of nationalistic reasons, what is the exact reasons for that cause?

It doesn't make sense to me. The government was so nationalistic that they unify the 40 kwons into one style instead of keep a diverse range of styles? :dontknow:

I think they did it to systemize it into a national sport so in turn they could pettion it to become an olympic sport. They probally wanted to do this because korea is such a small country and people really never heard about it, so they wanted to be known. Its easier to market 1 martial art to the world than 40. thats just what i think but hell what do i know i cant even by my own liquor yet.

So that it could be claimed the art was "Korean" instead of a bunch of karate dojos that happen to be in Korea?

Gongsudo = karatedo. Same thing, same practice, just different pronounciation.

The Gwans were united in order to systematize the art to promote in the Olympics. This would put Korea on the map after having being dominated for half a century by a foreign power, as well as have the added bonus of bringing these independent martial arts organizations under strict government control.

Now that you put it that way. It makes some sense.
