Thought I'd share some of my teacher's words every once and a while.
This evening he was describing a koan that used three gates as an imagery. One of the students spoke up.
Student: Do the three gates represent body, mind, and spirit?
Seunim: You are far away.
Student: Aren't there eight gates?
Seunim: The ninth gate is "Why don't you suck a fart out of my ass?"
Later this evening, he went on to describe the words in a koan as being like "gunsmoke", and saying that we must penetrate through to the heart of the gunman.
I'm gonna use "Heart of the Gunman" for a book title. It just sounds cool.

"Nothing can shine in your asshole."
My favorite Buddhist saying.

Heh...I should so write a book on Buddhism with that title. Friggin blow away people's preconceived notions of what Zen is like.
