You could say that about anything. Some of the people in my clubs Lion Dance team don't even train in the first place, they just want to do Lion Dance, other do it because they like to give something back to the Chinese community (team always does new year, weddings, buisness openings for good luck etc..) or just for a different type of work out once a week or (now this is a real shocker) just because they enjoy doing it as a hobby.

My sifu picks them up on trips to China. I haven't gone yet (because I'm poor), so I couldn't tell you exactly where.

I do lots of things that are a waste of training time. I go to the beach, and skateboard, and go out with ladies, and post on Bullshido, and read books, etc. When people used to ask me why I train, I used to have answers like getting better at fighting, self defense, etc. Now that people question the validity of anything that's not MMA, when people ask me why I train, I tell them because I enjoy practicing kung fu. I also enjoy lion dance. Hell, I enjoy practicing ki chuan do. Doing things I enjoy is not a waste of time *. I think in the grand scheme of things, spending all your time practicing for fighting if its not something you like is a real waste of time if you live in modern America.

*Mind you, most of my training time is spent doing things like bagwork and sparring, because they improve my fighting but also because I enjoy them.
