NAGA is heavily focused on newaza, so if you aren't well versed in submissions, you'll be at a disadvantage. You get 2pts for a takedown, but you get more for positional dominance and submission attempts.
I went on saturday. I placed 4th in my no-gi division (3 out of 5, there were over 30 guys in my division), and went 1 and 1 in gi. All my wins were subs, but a lot of the matches went to points.
It was a ton of fun. I'd definitely do it again, but I need to get my cardio up. 7 matches killed me. Each loss, all by sub, were b/c I was too tired to keep fighting, not because the sub was sunk that deeply. Oh well, live and learn. -
