I know what you're saying mate, it's just an idea I've been kicking about for a while & thought I would ask peoples opinions.

I don't know about detering people from bad decisions, but surely it's easier to make a 'better' decision if you have more information?

Quite. Show a lot of people how it should be done and they'll be straight out the door and looking for a nice gentle Aikido class. You just can't win 'em all, but you can give 'em a fighting chance.

The thing is if people just want to larp, great whatever.
If people want to learn effective techniques that they might have to use then why not give them a nudge in the right direction?

You could include some funny stuff in demos, like trying to defend a double leg using _ing_un. lolz all round.

I just got those horrible cold pangs running through me. The impossible desire to recoup a youth wasted on the Chunz. The wounds are still raw.
So yes, in an ideal world I would have gone to your Aliveness-class-thingy, but this isn't an ideal world. I think people have an idea they know best though, so you'll have to make a lasting impression.

If you could give a speech similar to one of Matt T's inspirational "aliveness" tirades, that might go down well.

The idea is good and I'd liken it to a group like the CSA (Canadian Standard Association). They watch dog products for consumers to ensure that the safest and most qualified product makes it to market thereby saving the consumer the trouble of not only picking a product but also background checking the product.

What I'm saying is that, although I agree with you, I think more sites and groups like Bullshido need to be in existence and current instructors need to be more vocal about their skills.

You'd probably be better off publishing something online or in print form and maybe having a local paper publish it next to Martial Art ads. That way people are given access to the information they need to make an informed decision. Keep in mind McDojos have also used this technique....
