:karated: I think great big stupid huge cans of mace, and some kind of heavy baton would make more sense...but if there's no time...I guess this would be better than getting stomped and mugged.

what about indian burns? that's a forearms thing?:icon_scra

My mom's in a wheel chair and they had some dude come and teach self-defense to her support group. It was bullshit there, and this clip is bullshit. In everyone of those the "attacker" could of easily continued the attack and outmaneuvered the guy in the chair once on the ground since he can use his legs to move around.

If you're in a chair the only viable defense you have is some kind of weapon with range (gun, pepper spray, etc). Reality sucks, but this kind of **** is just giving someone a false sense of security.

Noone I know in a chair thinks they are a badass. Even the athletes know that 9/10's of the world can kick their ass. It's doing the best you can do with what you've got. Being in a chair means being a target. Most people I know in chairs have been mugged multiple times. And you would think that just being able to walk up and grab someones wallet would be enough, but I know a bunch of people who have had that happen, and then the fucker felt the need to kick the **** out of them afterwards, just because. So anything is better than nothing.

This thread needs Bill Auvenshire. He could give a good critique of these techniques.
He SHOULD come back, so I can run him off again. Fucking cripple.

I think the idea behind the techniques in the video is that the attacker probably expects no resistance, a poor assumption, but it might work sometimes.

No, it's not. A false sense of security after practicing this **** leaves you worse off then you were before. I almost had to kick my mom's ass to bring her back to reality after her "handicapped self defense" class.

The only was it could work is if the guy can perform some kind of immediately and completely incapacitating attack, and we all know the general opinion about those. If it turns into a tussle on the ground, the dude in the chair will loose, no matter what. Without any legs or hip movement there is no lock or choke he can perform successfully. Unless in the ensuing chaos he can somehow get a weapon quickly into play he's fucked, and even if he does, it's likely the attacker will just take it from him if he's in a disadvantaged position when he takes it out.

No, but as a result of the course she had developed a serious "nobody is gonna take my purse" mentality. I wanted to track down the instructors and kick their heads in.

Have you never used a bulldog choke or RNC with no hooks?
