in my experience with throwing people, you'd have to have someone in a sideways stance and then sweep the back of their legs *really fuckin hard* to drop them like i think the OP is imagining..
you could always try kani basami instead.. it has a similar result, works against a sideways stance, and uh, has been proven by science to work and stuff.
oh, and it looks cool!
also, i keep thinking of the rex kwan do scene from napoleon dynamite where the guy (chip?) tries to sweep rex and he just jumps over it and punches him or something.. haha..
just do it like kyuzo mifune does:
now, but seriously:
it is hard to make someone fall down who doesn't want to fall down.
the best techniques for making it happen anyway are to be found in a style like wrestling or judo.
wrestlers or judoka are experts at making people fall down. they do not use mortal kombat sweeps.
why? my guess is that they're ineffective.
So you're saying it might be a good idea for a guy asking "how do sweep" online and comparing said sweeps to techniques found in a video game to try out techniques from a martial art he has no experience in, in particular a technique that is not just difficult to do properly even with real instruction but one that has been banned in competitions of said martial art that the guy has no experience in because of the danger of severe injury to the opponent?
