British Columbia, Canada: Grupo Axé Capoeira

I haven't heard much of this group but I have a friend who does this in Toronto and he said the last 4 months all their classes were preparing for a performance and they weren't really teaching class... He tells me some of the students are a little upset at this and there is another school opening up but thought I'd share what I know but wanted to know if this school is good or bad...

Looks Like Capoeira to me. The art does have a significant performance aspect.

What aspects of this club do not appeal to you?

What are you looking for in your training?

Grupo Axe seems to have a good reputation. Their school in Vancouver seems to produce a number of mixed martial artist who've enjoyed some success. Mestre Barrao's video series was enjoyable.

Did you miss completely what Capoeira was?

It has a very strong tradition of public performance as a means of training and improving.

Just 'cause you dont like it, doesnt make it BS.

There are other threads to discuss the combat effectiveness of an art, but there are a number of Capoeira guys cross training and doing fairly well in the Western Canadian MMA circuit that you should probably debate it with them.
