Anybody who doubts that Tibetan MA count as CMA can take it up with the PRC Army.

It's actually not that hard to find non-compliant sparring clips on Youtube.

What I'm finding looking for CMA sparring is confirming what most of us here already knew:-

    1) You will find lots of clips of what are obviously compliant demos or '2 man sparring sets'.

    2) There is a lot of very crappy sparring been done with what looks like such low intensity from the participants (who often sport ponytails and questionable beards) that it would not be recognised as sparring by a boxer or kickboxer.

    3) There do exist CMA schools which spar hard and compete and which are teaching an identifiable 'kung fu' style. It's easier for me to find them because of the reading I've done about different CMA styles over the last few years so I know which styles/groups are likely to yield a decent clip.

    4) Eastern Europeans/Russians do everything more hardcore. I fully expect to be able to find a clip of Ballet being practiced as a full contact combat sport in some dingy gymnasium in the Ukraine if I look hard enough.

I've drawn a complete blank looking for clips of Hung Gar sparring recognisably as Hung Gar/Hung Kuen though. This surprises me. It's one of the most popular southern chinese, 'hard' styles there is, with a reputation for tough conditioning etc..

Can anybody help us out here ?

Some people practicing Tai Chi sword applications
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I_wq23TBtIg

I heard of a group in the US which practiced their applications by sparring pretty hard with bamboo swords and gear some time ago (under a chinese born teacher IIRC). Can't remember the name. Will try and dig some up.

RM or Omar got any ideas on this one ?

More chinese weapon sparring. Didn't watch the whole thing. They start off with what look like 'safety spears'

So at it's best, CMA can be shown to be striking + takedowns + some joint locks (mostly taught in a standing context) + weapons. There are examples are all of it being done in a live competitive format. The unarmed stuff 'full contact'.

You won't get it in the majority of CMA schools, but there it is. Video. It happened.

I remember Omar once took a still image of JFS from one of the maryland throwdown vids, and compared it to a drawing from a book. JFS had good form.

See, this shouldn't surprise anyone. The problem is people imply good structure supersedes sparring.

You can have both and that is what makes a great teacher and school.
You can have one of each also but, 2 are fighting schools one isn't.

Basically, the problem lies with CMAs that claim SD that only practice structure. That is what most of you have encountered.
