No. This isn't true. There was a healthy full contact sports scene for CMA people in Asia for decades before point tournaments got popular in the west.

Yeah. Kuoshu tournaments all over southeast asia. Leitai fights involving TCMA rather than modern San Da participants (that's actually what's in the 80s footage in the 'no video it didn't happen' thread).

The guy who brought the style of Tai Chi I do to the UK fought in the 4th & 5th South East Asian Chinese Martial Art Championships in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur respectively. Footage of his victory by knockout in the second one exists. There's a still from it in one of his books.

Honestly, i'm not talking about the tournaments in Singapore, etc, but the lack of tournaments (full contact) in the USA in the 60's-70's-80's-90's.

Full contact kung fu has been going in the Baltimore area for quite a while now, and no, I'm not referring to JFS.

This is part of why I never understood why people went on and on about Kung Fu stylists who didn't spar. I thought they all did?

    What do I know...

Anyway, here's a link to an article on the tournament.

    Here's this year's rules.

Ming Loyalist will be down for it this year. I don't know if they'd let me compete, since Iron Wheel is Korean Kung Fu, but I would love a shot.

Here's a video of a match from a few years back.

I was going to post about the Kuoshu tournament but Errant beat me to it. I actually may be trying this out this year. I am still waiting to find out from one of my coaches if we have some sponsorship money to cover our expenses. I am unemployed as of last Friday, so without sponsorship of some kind I can't afford to go.

Errant I am sure that they'll let you compete, just do what our other fighters are going to do, lie about what school they're coming from.

    That's not point sparring.

    You mean next weekend?

Dude, if you and Ming were in town, it would be like...sheer awesomeness intensified.

Lol...would that I could, I don't think it would fly, on the count of representing a Buddhist art.

Do they still require you to demonstrate a form to prove you're CMA? If so, I think Seunim knows a couple Shaolin forms. I could just ask him to teach me one.
