No, I would actually pay to see Timberlake vs Couture. Old school vale tudo rules preferably, with a blind ref and sandpaper for flooring, while Mayweather watches.

    Then it's Mayweather's turn.

But then again I'm vindictive little ****.

Oh ESPY, will you ever know what makes a great fighter? I'm probably beating a dead horse here, but I think the fact that there are countless MMA fighters at Floyd's weight class that would beat the hell out of him means that he should not be #1. O well.

You guys fail to give credit to progression and the obvious increased recognition of the sport in mainstream sports in the U.S. The first time the UFC was ever mentioned on Sports Center was prior to the Lidell/Rampage fight a month or so ago.

So the fact that there are 2 MMA fighters listed in the category at all is a HUGE step in the right direction toward mainstream acceptance of the sport in America.

Those who have been following the sport for years can easily cry "BULLSHIT!!!"; however, I applaud ESPN for its slow but sure increased recognition of the sport. Unfortunately, in America, if your sport is not on ESPN Sports Center, (see professional cycling and rugby) then you are a fringe sport hardly recognized or acknowledged by Joe Public.

My opinion, ****, Couture is the man, but the fact that Couture is even listed is awesome.

There is no MMA fighter as good at his sport as Mayweather is at boxing -

    This was Fair

The best fighter in the world right now is Floyd Mayweather Jr.

NaTis, there are so many different factors in MMA that would make comparing boxing and MMA in reference to individual fighters and their rankings near impossible. Are you being sarcastic?

And Golden, I completely agree that it's sad that here in the US a single entity like ESPN Sport Center has the monopoly on public opinion on sports.

How is it fair? You tell me some criteria that would make this a fair cross sport comparison. Could be true that floyd is the best boxer in the world and Couture is the best MMA fighter in the world but tell me how you can compare the two together and side by side to determine who actually is the best fighter . . . just an aside that Fedor was not on the list even after being so completely dominating in the last number of years.

Don't they also have something like 'Best Athlete' of the year? I mean, Tiger Woods can't beat Allen Iverson in basketball so should he not win 'Best Athlete'? I agree that the system is flawed but in a way it makes sense. PBF dominates his sport uneaqualed. I don't think it's about 'who's the best in a fight' kind of thing.

In the sense of "who is the best at their particular combat sport" then yes, I can see Floyd Mayweather at the top of this list. It's the wording that throws it since he is in no way the best "fighter."
