Could someone please explain the difference (did a search, couldn't find anything, and yes, I'll ask my instructor when I get to class...) between a brabo choke and an anaconda choke?

From what I've seen on youtube, they position the arms differently (ie figure fouring the arms on different sides of the opponent's head & arm) - but I'm guessing it's more than that? And how do you escape from either?

For amazing info on the brabo and other similar chokes, including escapes, check out aesopian.com.

    Jeff Rockwell's contributions are great.

Hrmmm yeah that is a good read for the brabo.

Do you have any links to good anaconda stuff that I can compare it to?

Yeah I'm starting to make that out from youtube vids.

Hopefully I can get to class soon to learn the little things and drill it.

Are escapes from both the same or different? I watched the video of the one on Aesopian's site for the Brabo, is it similar for the Anaconda?

Yes, what's the difference between a rear naked choke and a guillotine besides the arm configuration, setups, and positioning? And how do I escape both? At once?

There's a difference between asking a good question and a crappy one. For instance, if you were to post, I don't know:

I've been working a Brabo choke combination from half guard [describe combination here], and I've come to the realization that I have a lot of trouble finishing when my opponent does this [insert counter from your opponent]. I've tried [this], [this], and [this]. I'm wondering if any of you have run into the same problem, and if you've come up with a solution. As I see, my options are: [options].

Here's what my instructor said: [Comments, helpful or not, from instructor].

Try that next time. I bet I won't touch your thread, other than maybe to sticky it for awhile if it gets really good.

I was going to make it a separate thread in DHS, but then I figured it would be too newbish and to stick it in Guantanamo, then I remembered the blue chip thread and just figured I'd ask a quick question.

Didn't mean to clutter it up. My bad.

No, man, I mean I just don't know the moves. At least not by those names. I watched the youtube video and the brabo is a front arm triangle to me. What my instructor called the anaconda is just a completely different move from what I've seen on the technique videos and pages I've looked at.

My vocabulary for grappling is retarded.

So my questions about the moves require an explaination of what moves you're talking about. Like what's the difference between a darce and a peruvian neck tie? I have no idea.

Also, a lot of these chokes are new to me since I found them through Aesopian's site(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dDewhiSRilI). I did know the brabo, but I think that's probably the only one in the series I knew. My original instructor was something of a crappler, and my current one learned most of the submissions he knows from the same guy. He likes the moves and has figured them out now that he's seen them, but had not figured them out by trial and error. Many times I was told by my old instructor that "such-n-such move you're trying doesn't work, it's not a submission", I took that at face value at the time. I think the guy knew more than he taught, but anything he didn't like, he didn't teach or really care about, and he didn't like technical grappling. He was a "use wrestling to get a good position, then go for something simple or strength based" kind of guy.
