And why shouldn't they get as much as boxers???? I understand your point though. In those days it wasn't about the boxer though. The managers and promoters set the purse and totally fucked the fighter. The last thing we need is for MMA to become a commercialized money mill. It is to a point right now but at this stage the fighters still seem to be the ones calling the shots vs the managers and promoters and that's the way it should be. In general it seems that MMA fighters now a days have learned a lesson from boxers who got the dry poke in the ass in the past.

I have a higher regard for Rashad for not being a payday bitch and whining about the difference in pay. Rashads in it to win it at this point and would probably fight for nothing if it gave him a title shot. Guys like Tito, who have tasted "glory and the loot the ensues" are just looking for the next safe pay day. Rashad is still a fighters fighter. Tito is just a paycheck fighter and I am sure even he would admit it.Amateur MMA record: 8-3-1

Let me shed some light from first-hand experience.
First and foremost, tenure is very important. Tito is a former long standing champ of the UFC, and was the Icon of the UFC for a long time. He signed a great contract because thats what his name deserved.
Going into TUF, Rashad was (and I mean this respectfully, but realistically) a nobody in fighting. He was a great wrestler but no one knew who he was in MMA. That all changes when he goes on and wins TUF, but he signed a long term deal with with the UFC before the show.
Cro-Cop is a HUGE name associated with Pride and K1. He is one of the most proven heavyweight around, and is very good. He just ran into an upcoming nightmare in Gonzaga. Same deal... Napao signed a long term deal before he beat Cro-Cop. If Cro-Cop has knocked out Napao, no one would be making a stink about Cro Cop making way more than someone he beat.
When I fought Jens, I made like 6K while Jens made 30K. If he had won, he would have made (I'm guessing) 60K to my 3K, and it would have made sense because he was the former lightweight champ and I was fish food.
Contracts usually reflect who "should" win, so when "upsets" occur... the difference is even greater. When you add in the "TUF" contracts... its a whole new wrench.
Anther great example is Kenny Florian. He just fought Sean Sherk for the Lightweight title and made like 12K or something like that. Kenny deserves a lot more than 12K... but he signed a long term deal when he did the show, and thats what he has to work with for now. -
