    judogi/jujitsugi

Alright, I wasn't able to find an appropriate existing thread for this. Just out of curiosity, do most judo/bjj schools allow the gi's to interchange. I'm finally springing for a gi for my bjj class, but I want to look at possibly doing judo in the next year or so and I want to know if I'm going to have to drop that money again.

From what I understand it's OK, it's just that Judo ones are thicker and you'll get hotter rolling around in BJJ.

As a general rule Judo tournaments dont allow BJJ gis. The main telling factor is the skirt. If it has that checkerboard stitch pattern below the belt it will be allowed. Also the patches from BJJ are not allowed. Judo allows you to have patch on the back, smaller patches on the tops of the shoulders and a patch of your dojo over the heart. No patches on the pants.
Judo is only gentle for the guy on top.

You can use Judo gi for Jiu Jitsu. But you cannot use a Jiu Jitsu gi for Judo.

Does JuJitsu have a lot of patches? Is that like their form of belt-stripes or something?

Judo also lets you have small chest indicators for every time you've won a world championships or Olympics! Now that's gi-pimping for you.

I've seen BJJ people wear BJJ gis in judo competition (I don't think the refs here are as strict).

Jiu Jitsu gis are like NASCAR cars. The more patches the better. Judo gis tend to be more subdued.

Our club allows us to train with BJJ Gis but obviously recommends Judo ones since they tend to be stronger. One lad came with a (admittedly shitty and lightweight) BJJ Gi and managed to get it ripped.

We can't wear BJJ Gis to Judo competitions either though.
