Poi - Great clips, you get these from Pappy? This first clip is all rattan isn't it? Either that or I need glasses... (this could very well be the case because I didn't even notice I was in it until the second viewing... ****).

Edit - Yeah, nevermind, it starts with rattan and ends with padded. That's when you and Seeing Eye broke my homemade padded sticks fuckers. I need to improve on that design for sure you pile driving hard hitting stick breaking bastards!

Crafty has a Saturday class at Guro Dan's, but his Wednesday class is at Rigan Machado's academy in Redondo.

    Aloha
SC - Wednesday was by invite only and Saturday is an open class. Not sure Wednesday is still going on though since the last Gathering.

The lesson here today: DON'T **** WITH FAT PEOPLE!!
I gotta say, thats why the idea of boffer sparing never sat well with me.

I mean I can see with kids, but even then, you learn so many bad habits, or atleast thats what I think. I mean wood is one thing. I gotta say, the cleanest, or atleast that looked the cleanest, HES fencing I've seen was done with rebated blades, fencing masks and arming doublets/gambesons.

As always guys my opinion, take it for what you will.

I like the idea of sparring with a flail weapon i.e. one of the most destructive (non-bladed) weapons ever invented. When you're all padded up and using Barbie Nunchaku, you can get hit and carry on - nice and realistic...!

In kendo, the best type of sparring is ippon shobu - one-cut victory. Everything depends on that single strike so everything goes into that one attack. You look for the opening or try and create it. You lull the opponent into attacking first. You try and break the opponent's spirit or make him hesitate. If the attack fails, the chances are the counterattack won't...

    THAT is weapons sparring.

I've heard've of a similar approach in Classical Fencing, in tournaments they fight very conservatively.
