Isn't josh barnnet that guy in the UFC who's actually in great shape, has great technique, but still carries a little flab around? (Correct me if I am wrong)
Looks are nothing. Hell, a little padding can't hurt as far as absorbing impact.

In his last fight, Ricco looked like he had a keg, but like FingerMoon? said, he was still going strong at the end of the fight.
Back to the original question, yes I think it may be possible lose 20-25 lbs and improve your conditioning dramaticallty in about 6 weeks. Probable? No. But possible? Yes.
The thing is most people don't have the knowledge or will to do it. I know I don't. If you are really serious about this, you are going to have to be really serious about this, if you catch my drift. You are going to have to do a lot of hard work over the entire period, and stay focused on your goal. But working "hard" probably won't be enough.
You're going to also have to work smart. My suggestion to you is to speak professional help, preferably someone with a background in training people for combat sports. You need someone that can ascess where you are now, tell that person where you want to be, and work together to develope a plan to get you there.
On top of the specfic physical training, this person should help you to stay focused, realistic, and, most importantly, give you recommendations prevent overtraining and injury.
I just came back to training after taking 8 weeks off with a neck injury sustained in a car accident. I intended to start slow, but once I got into the dojo I got too into it and tried to go all out. I ended up sparring for 45 straight minutes, and am now suffering from a pulled groin muscle and some pretty intense back spasms.

Yeh, Punisher is right.
To lose that much weight you'd need not only a personal trainer--you'd need a nutritionist to help you figure out your optimal reduction in daily caloric intake in order to burn off all the stored fat.
If you tried to do that all protein and no carbs Atkins deal, and reduce caloric intake you probably still wouldn't lose 20-25 pounds in 40 days, and your metabolsim would be in ketosis--which may have some side affects.

But does he have that type of time to dedicate? I doubt it.
Also, losing that much in 40 days just can't be healthy.
