I don't think making TKD more realistic and "harder" would make it like generic KB. In fact, I think it would/could make it more like Kyokushin; a hard contact, tough, traditional art.

As far as the ITF goes, they need to quit screwing around with this "it's not really FC but you can get tagged really hard sometimes (surprise!)" crap and just go true full contact. You could keep the other rules essential the same re: equipment and target areas. As far as the WTF, first of all it already is full contact! You can win by KO. But yes, get rid of the Hogu. Also, whether you allow punches to the face or not, SCORE THEM. Even scoring punches to the body alone would do a lot to prevent some of the ridiculous crap you see in WTF fighting.

I love posts like this, they take me back to the mid 1990s when I did karate and Taekwondo and whatnot and thought that way. Thanks for the nostalgia trip, now get a reality check.

Wht, you've never seen Taekwondoists in neat lines marching up and down the hall doing Kihon... um... I mean basics. And as you said, it's in the forms. If you have forms and insist on doing them, wouldn't it be a small step in the right direction to have those forms better reflect the moves people actually do when sparring???

Yeah, I reckon war stories always get better with the telling. There's probably some truth in it, but by and large it's just people trying to claim credibility based on what they don't do anymore - the classic example would be Aikidoka recounting how hard O'Senile was. Yeah, that really makes wearing a skirt much tougher.

Not really. Just focus on them less. But this has already been discussed to death in another thread. :beatdead:

I get the impression you are one of those Taekwondo apologisors. Why do you hang out on a site dedicated to eliminating bullshit in martial arts if you think discussing just that is flogging a dead horse? Go practice stradle stance or something, do some kiaps to get it out of your system.

Nah, I just misunderstood the thread. I thought it was talking about TKD fighting, and since i've never seen anyone stupid enough to use a front stance low block in a fight, I assumed you were going to go on another one of those anti-form rants. I did the dead horse thing as a cop-out, actually.

god damn is it really 2 o clocK?

    The word is apologist.

The only response I have to your entire first post is...

    Duh.
