I know this guy just makes you want to explode with Napoleon Dynamite references, but please don't. He looks like he knows what he's doing as he walks you through a position that's often passed over for more spider guard work in sport bjj.

I've been shown several setups from here, but never played with an overhook. Instead most people at my academy put both shins on the biceps and monkey paw each triceps.

Obviously this is designed for MMA, but I could see this being a useful addition to sport jits, especially in the situation where you've zombied one hand to the mat but your omoplata/jiu claw is being blocked because he's dropping his shoulder weight to that side.

EDIT: Cool technique, but it's hard to set up, as you need a collar tie AND he has to strike you, and you'd need great reflexes. If you can pull it off, I can see it working, but it's a very specfic defense for a very specific situation.

It seems to be a very 'one use' application and honestly, not a unique guard. I think he's trying to gain notoriety saying 'I made up Diamond Guard'. When I see closed to butterfly/knee-in on one side with an overhook.

My point is that the dude being reversed would post with the overhooked hand, because it is only controlled above the elbow, meaning he can move it from the elbow down. Am I not understanding the grip?

This breaks down the minute you realize that almost nobody tries to throw big shots like that without clearing a collar tie beforehand.

It's an interesting and decent approach to slowing down a GnP though.
