    Hell yeah! Hell no!

Boxing for Uncle Sam (paging military members)

I'm going Active Duty with the Air Force soon, and plan to join up with the on base boxing gym to keep up my training, because I figure it's cheaper and more convienient than anything else available. Curious if anyone has had any experience with this route. Is the quality generally good, or is it kinda "hands off" and just free access to some bags? I know every base is different, but hell even personal anecdotes would be great.

Edit: Oh, and I had no idea really where to post this. If it needs to be a YMAS thread, go right ahead.

I was in the army not the airforce so keep this in mind. I have never been to an army post that had a boxing club. A lot of them have combatives schools now but not boxing. I spent some time at Kadena AFB in Okinawa and at Osan AFB in Korea and I don't recall seeing any boxing there either. It largely depends on the station as opposed to the military as a whole. If you already know where you'll be going you can research ahead of time and see what they have.

here at Ramstein Air Base in Germany there is no boxing club, there isn't even any heavy bags at the base gym. I have to go off base for my Muay Thai classes. They do have karate, TKD and Capoeira on base though.....lol.

Most likely you will have to go off base to get any type of quality boxing classes

I'm new to the boxing game myself, but I wouldn't hold my breath if I were you... looking for a boxing club is probably not going to come to many successful ends on just about any military base.

We had a pretty full course MMA club at camp pendleton. Hosted Pankration events as well.

On ship, we used to mix it up pretty regularly.

The Marine Corps bases tend to have some sort of wrestling club at least, boxing/kickboxing was rare, but people got together for it.

Once I came to the West Coast, there was boxing , kickboxing, mma and **** everywhere in Oside and San DIego, so it was no big deal.

I'll ask my Air Force buddies, they are into fightsport too and have been stationed all over.

The base I'm going to has a boxing club folks, I know that for sure (hence my original first post), I just know a lot of folks that did some boxing with the service, and was curious if anyone really had any sort of experience.

    Thanks for the posts.

Hi, I'd just like to that indeed no, I have no experience with boxing in the military. I have beaten up some marines though, if that tells you much about their H2H training.
Tough is not how you act, tough is how you train.

Yeah, I won't be doing any HtH stuff.

I've outboxed and outgrappled my fair share of marines/army folk as well, and I really get to chide them for being a Chair Force member =P
