Yeah, the spyderco sharpmaker set is great. Easy to use and very effective. Mine is getting a little old and doesn't work as well as it used to. I can't seem to get the steel particles out of the ceramic material any more. Time for new rods, I guess. It probably didn't help that every time I got it out while I was in the sandbox all my friends would ask me to sharpen their knives, too. I didn't mind and it was a good way to de-stress. You'll find that people who outrank you seldom bother you when there's two rows of knives next to you, the sharp and the dull and you've been sharpening for quite a while.
I had someone look at one of my knives a few months back that I had sharpened on the sharpmaker tell me that it was dull. This was after I shaved a patch of hair off my arm with it. Before I had a chance to say anything he'd drawn it across his forearm, handed it back to me and said, "See?" I went "huh", obviously confused and put it away. That was about the time their arm started gushing.
Edit: BTW, I wish I had video of that.Last edited by wetware; 6/22/2007 2:17am at .

My first attempt to sharpen my Tom Brown Tracker and Smersh 4 failed miserably.

When I got my tracker it said that I can send it back to them to get sharpened. I use it now for a not of hacking and shopping so I'm not too worried over a razor edge.
My cut my seatbelt before I burn to death tanto can can be used to shave however.
Heres a question, my new seal pub has a serrated edge on it. How does one sharpen those?
SFGoon, I just couldnt bring myself to put the Burka on the old lady, their creepy.Last edited by vigilus; 6/22/2007 12:05pm at .

The key to sharpening with a stone is to keep a consistent angle throughout the length of the blade.
Degree of angle depends on your intended use.
Same goes for blade material/hardness.
I'm with Olorin in that I get satisfaction from maintaining a sharp edge. This takes little time if you sharpen often. -
