Jesus Christ titties, this thread just gave me a headache.

First, Hispano is a linguistic category, and as such it only describes Spaniards and Spanish-speaking Latin Americans (Brazilians and Haitians are not included.)

Second, Brazilians are Latinos (or Latin-Americans, with origins in Latin America), but not Portuguese or Spaniards.

In terms of language, Brazilians are Lusitano-Americans, or Lusitanic along with Portuguese. But by language alone, they are not Hispanic.

Hispanic, Hispanic-American, Lusitanic, Lusitano-American, and Latino (or Latin-American) are linguistic and cultural classifications. They overlap, but they are not the same. At the end of the day, these classifications are just one nebulous attempt to classify all the diverse people coming from the metropole and the western colonies of the Spanish and Portuguese empires.

I'd be surprised if Griffin actually said such a thing, with a racist connotation. He's been know more to be a wacky goof with a penchant for commedy than an asshole.

The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris

Besides which, the fact that one sloppy definition is not absolutely contradictory to your position (but still, as I've demonstrated, can be interpreted in such a way that it doesn't support you) doesn't change the fact that most definitions of "hispanic" are:

    American Heritage:
    1) Of or relating to Spain or Spanish-speaking Latin America.
    2) Of or relating to a Spanish-speaking people or culture.

    Online Etymology Dictionary:
Hispanic: "pertaining to Spain" (especially ancient Spain) 1584, from L. Hispanicus, from Hispania "Iberian Peninsula," from Hispanus "Spaniard" (see Spaniard). Specific application to Sp.-speaking parts of the New World is 1889, Amer.Eng.; esp. applied since c.1972 to Sp.-speaking persons of Latin American descent living in U.S.

    WorldNet:
    1. related to a Spanish-speaking people or culture; "the Hispanic population of California is growing rapidly"

    That's just what I found on dictionary.com.

Because it's another symptom of annoying group stupidity, it dilutes the word Racism, and it's generally just irritating.

I'm Cuban and Irish so I have final say in Hispanic/Irish race relations. I deem Forrest's comment unfunny but not racist! So there you go you can all settle down now.

    Killingmoon,

The definition is stating that hispanic culture/heritage is located largely amongst, central and south americans with a cultural heritage orginating from spain and indigenous american cultures. I don't understand why you cant grasp this. Brazilian culture has a distint portuguese heritage, not spanish. Its really not hard to understand.

Really. Most of he longest posts are yours.
I've noticed this lately when the issue of race comes up, but the hostility appears to come from those who aren't even under the subject racially.
Tee hee. You got reamed by many races not just white. The longest posts come from bi-racial people.

    You are still stretching.
Anyhow, just seemed worth noting. But no one's getting shot over this or anything. LOL
Uhmm no. Noting would have been a couple of sentences not a mini essay.

is this borrowed from fag queens who say that anyone who hates gays must be repressing their own sexuality or something?

the fact that so many people have reacted the way they have should indicate to you that you are being a PC whiny little bitch. probably the kind who goes out leafleting for various right-on organisations or something.

or maybe we're all over-reacting and you're right...?*
