Well protein supplements have protein, so it has calories. Extra calories = more mass, either fat or muscle.
A protein shake is probably best used immediately post workout. A whey protein (the most common), 1-2 scoops (20-40 grams) mixed with water. Other than that just eat more food unless you are a vegan or have a special need for protein shakes. -

Also, cytogainer is weightgainer shake, which is different than a protein shake. A protein shake usually has 20-25 grams protein per serving and around 100 calories depending on sugar content. The main ingredients are just usually whey protein and flavorings.
A weightgainer contains at least 500 and up to 1000 or more calories and has lots of everything in it (protein/fat/carbohydrates). -

I've started mixing whey protein with water as well. It's supposed to be strawberry-flavored and I can handle the taste, really. What gets me are the nasty clumps that won't dissolve that you just have to choke down. It's better with milk, but drinking 4 dl milk plus all that protein is unnecessarily filling IMO.

People can recomend you want type of protein supplements to take. However, none of that will work unless you are eating and lifting enough and properly.

The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris -

I am far from a nutrition expert, but since doing pretty intense physical therapy I've been having a protein shake once a day. I mix vanilla powder with some orange juice and it ends up tasting like a crappy creamsicle, but it's still pretty decent tasting. OJ has a lot of sugar for a glass, but it's better than soda, has vitamin C and potassium and makes the protein go down easy.

I can't drink that **** anymore. It never blends correctly and makes me want to vomit from the texture (reminds me of Oysters..) It's just revolting. I let the gym blend a drink for me and it's much more palatable. It costs about 15$ more a month for them versus myself making it. I figure it's worth it.
