Shao-Lin Do fighting
I began training in Shao-Lin Do under Master Bob Green in 1974. After receiving my black belt, I trained directly under GM Sin and Hiang The, as well as Master Leonard and Master Eric Smith. I have a lifetime membership, granted to approx 100 black belts in 1982, allowing me access to many advanced classes over the years. I have attended over 200 advanced forms classes, barely scratching the surface, since GM Sin has the material for over 900 at his disposal. GM Sin would often have to review his notes and charts prior to teaching a previously unreleased class. He likened it to having taken an undergraduate college class and having received an "A", and then teaching the class years later. Of course, anyone would have to revisit the material. Believe me, he had extraordinary grasp of the material and the applications, once he was teaching. GM Sin is a true Grandmaster, just as he seems in his videos and books. He is genuine, humble, humerous, and has a memory like a steel trap. I had the privelege of spending a lot of time with GM Sin while I was acting as his maintenance manager and night security at the Sin The Sportscenter in the 80's.
I also trained under Stephen Hayes in the art of Ninjutsu for several years, and had the privelege of working with hatsumi Sensei when he came to the States in 1981. GM Hatsumi and GM Sin were very similar in demeanor, humor, and physical prowess.
As far as Shaolin Do having no decent fighters...really? I have won several major point tournaments, and went on into PGA full contact karate, where I did very well as a professional fighter under my manager, John Ormsby.
There are many, many outstanding fighters in Shaolin Do. Make the trip to Lexington, KY and tell Elder Master Leonard that Shaolin Do has no fighters, however, be prepared to get your ass handed to you by a man in his sixties. -
