The first is a benchmark, how do they determine the weight you use for the squats/press and how many pullups you have to do. Even though that guy cheated and did, chinups.
Also what's the medicine ball for?
I don't think he was cheating, that's a technique for doing a certain kind of pull-up, called kipping pull ups i think.

My old Buj instructors do this stuff. This should give you an idea why I still hold them in high regard.
It let's you know you've gone low enough on the squat and provides at least something to crash into if you loose your control rather then just drop your pelvis on the floor.
