Chinese Kickboxing and Submission Fighting Club, Boston

I had Boston Sanda at a 9 but lowered it after reading the stickies. I think it does qualify as a 9 based on the number of national and world champions teaching, but the 8 reflects the relative obscurity of San Shou. I know that the two schools are allies and don't compete against each other so certainly nothing but respect for CKSF.

I live in Jamaica Plain, but travel to Rosslindale to train. I would say that since Cung Le (who knows Lefty, and probably Marvin too) broke Frank Shamrock's forearm with shin kicks....San Da and San Shou have risen in their international profile.

I'd put Boston SanDa and The Chinese Kickboxing Club both at 9's for striking instruction. There aren't many New England schools of that pedigree.

Cung definitely knows Marvin; Cung fought his team mate Josh Bartolemew 5 times.
Sityodtong definitely comes to mind as a local 9-10.

DOes the school have a program for kids?

yes, level one and two...unless they changed it. I would say Sityodtong, Wai Kru, BostonSan Da, and Lefty's school all should have a 9 or more. Not sure other than that, for this area. We are blessed to have many many martial arts schools, and gyms around here.

My belief is an 8, the 4 was only to get the "average" down, i.e., rate bombing.

still, a four?? that's not how the rating system goes.

to post that, you should come to left's sparring class, and then rate it like that. we have the highest respect for the quality of instruction. I only abstained from 10s to avoid flaming.

It's not your average school. The contact and pressure levels go from about 70% to full out.

It's not lacking mats. The highlight Bobby made is from the old-old school. It also, unfortunately, shows tons of flashy demo stuff that I wouldn't count on in competition or a real fight. But the new gym is pretty big and has plenty of mat space. It's also called Extreme MMA Center now, but I'm too lazy to make a new review.

yeah, I found out after I'd made it, that some of that was them kinda goofing around, and not in the curriculum. I still like the vid, so I left it.

I should do them, a proper promo vid, if I can chisel out the time, from my already hectic schedule.

Please note that Paul 'Lefty' Rosado's Chinese Kickboxing and Submission Grappling Club has merged with Boston SanDa Kickboxing in the new REDLINE Fight Sports gym in Cambridge. So now all of Lefty's program is under one roof with Coach Marvin Perry's fight team as well as a first rate boxing program and additional grappling coaches.
