As a former boxer, believe me the strikes work and are different to anything that you will experience. Val is a very capable martial artist.
I was once on a course in Hereford, taking part in a mixed martial art session. I played around with this kind of striking, with guys wearing this kind of stuff, body armour. The same results happened as Val , except I was striking a British Para, who was a samoan, and 6 foot 4 plus.

Yes, it's an eye bulging:new_Eyecr ****-your-pants kind of feeling, and very hard to hold still for another one after that.

amen to that, you can take a deep breath and step back into mix but the body starts exerting control as the pain and fear blossom :5flowerfa

from my (limited) understanding its a simmilar theory to fa jing in chinese arts. theres no secrets its just being totaly relaxed, no tension whatsoever, and striking right through the opponent.
its a bit like striking the balls! it works best when there is a break in 'play' and isnt as effective if your both toe to toe - but it still works tremendously!
from my (not so limited) street experience you can use the same priciples in a blocking motion from an attack (jut sao) and it still has a great effect

Not quite. Tension in the hand and wrist is kept as high as possible. Nothing from your elbox forward should move or be moveable. Everything else is kept relaxed and the punch is thrown with a subtle "wave" motion starting in the hips. Once you land the punch, don't snap it back. Let it sink in and linger a second.

The idea is to be relaxed, not a rag doll.

    It's just a massage technique.

Also, it's possible to punch, rather than sew, stiches into someone if they get cut.
