Can you drop a few names? I'll see if I can't check them out at the range. Thanks in advance.

Glock pistols (any of the 9mm / .40 / 357 Sig ones, except for the longslides) can be had for that amount.

Sig P229 series: More of a stretch at about 570, but still very nice.

Kahr K or T series: Smoothest double action only trigger pull you'll probably ever find.

Well that's not nearly as funny.

Has anyone else heard of this problem with the 9mm XD that I mentioned earlier?

Well they cleaned it again. Works fine now. Just went and put 100 rounds through it. Did horrible as usual, but the gun worked without a hitch. I suppose for me it'd be a hard choice between a Glock 17 or 19, XD-9 4" or 5" or M&P 9.

Yep. I'm supposed to spend it on new uniforms and stuff, but meh.

However when I get commissioned I will lose the clothing allowance, which will suck. But my normal paycheck will more than compensate for the loss.

Don't worry about losing your food and clothing allowances. You'll be given one right after you get commissioned for initial purchase, and you're man enough to buy your own groceries.

What you should worry about is being the oldest LT in the world, and the same E-7s who you used to joke and smoke with will be taking the piss out of you like you were a pimply 22 year old.

I didn't realise how much I miss that clothing allowance until I read this thread.

and the 10,000 other little surprises in your paycheck the US military gives you.

Of course, theres another side to that coin. DFAS has lovingly placed a collection for $2K on my credit report - I have been out of the Army for two years. Good times.

I bought the subcompact for my(now ex) wife, it was pretty solid.

Not my favorite 9mm series however, but I would recommend it for self-defense. My blaster of choice is a Kimber 1911, a copy of the MEU(soc) pistol. I was lucky to get one of the Simonich grips before the big rush on them. I had a permanent conversion from 9mm.

I use the "both thumbs forward" shooting technique out of a modified weaver stance. A lot of the idiosyncrasies of your grip depend on the pistol.

I went through a lot of bdus and I also had all of my field ones modified as well by tactical tailor before the recent generation of MARPAT.
