    Hell yeah! Hell no!

Tim Ferriss, does anyone know him?

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODoVq...ltimedia%2Ehtm

    This is from Ivygate

    http://www.ivygateblog.com/blog/tags/aleksey_vayner/

Look for the most recent article which is on Ferriss.

    1) Does anyone recognize the tournment from the first 30 seconds of the footage?

    2) Does anyone know anything about this guy as a martial artist. i.e trained with him, watched him compete?

Dude's an alum of my school, he came to speak here a week or two ago, although I missed it. I have no clue about the book, I'm not interested in self-help stuff myself, but a guy who's done some mt and bjj said he did some light sparring or rolling with him when he visited for his talk and said he knew his stuff. I think he said he fought K-1 or some such?

Besides, the Ivy Gate blog's complaint seems to be focused solely on the Amazon.com book reviews, which look fishy, but which are not necessarily, and in fact doubtfully, connected to Ferriss himself. Most Amazon.com coordinated rating boosters are created by the publishers or whatever, not the authors - they just tell their flunkies to do it, without being asked to by the author. And I don't exactly trust IvyGate, anyways.

In addition to which, the comparison to Aleksey Vayner is unwarranted, unless IvyGate is going to make the claim that Ferriss hasn't done all the stuff he's claimed he's done. I wouldn't know, but it's not like he's done particularly unbelievable stuff compared to other people here, it's just that he's the only one who's written a book about it.

I'm sure I can dig up stuff as to his training during his time here, I think I train with and under some people who've trained with him, but it would help if you could give more specific questions as to his martial arts training, and say what and why specifically you're investigating. I don't want to go around stirring up trouble if there's no reason to.

After a quick googling, Dave Camarillo plugged for him:

Going after people for boosting their review rating for a book that has almost nothing to do with MA...fabulous Sam. Obviously this is the BEST POSSIBLE thing that you could be doing right now, going after someone who doesn't teach MA, and also knows what he's doing, for something so unbelievably stupid, it isn't even funny.

Maybe I just got trolled, but either way, this thread belongs in Trollshido.

Sure, this is not a formal investigation. But since he is indicating that he has a competition background via his tape, I'm interested if others can confirm where he fought.

Timothy or Tim Ferriss does not show up in the standard databases.

    http://www.boxrec.com
    http://www.sherdog.com/
    http://www.onthemat.com

So I would be interested in knowing.

    1) Where did he fight, and if he holds any titles?

    2) Does he have a particular rank in BJJ or another art?

    3) What do people think his skill level is, professional, semi-pro, club/hobbiest(sp)

David Camarillo didn't say anything about Mr. Ferriss's martial arts skills, only that he had lived with the guy and that people should help him out.

I disagree with you using the word, "going after", I'm just trying to confirm whether Ivy Gate has a leg to stand on. Given that the last time we argued you spent all your time telling me to STFU, I don't particularly respect your opinion. But why not help by producing a reference to someplace he fought? Your google fu is probably better then mine.

Tim Ferriss - The 4 Hour Work Week - An Interview
Tim Ferriss and I first met in person in Washington DC on my recent trip. He came up to me seconds after a presentation that I made and told me how hed worked with a mate of mine and then asked if he could take me to lunch (hint - free food is always a good way to make a good impression with me).

The lunch that ensued was one that I wont forget in a hurry - we hit it off and I quickly realized that Id already heard about Tim (through a bizarre and surreal connection that Im not allowed to tell you about - he IS a champion kick boxer and world champion cage fighter - Im not going to break that promise)."

Okay, gentleman, we have a lot of NHB fans here. Is anyone familar where Tim won his cage and kick boxing matches?

Okay, does anyone who follows the fight scene in Japan or China know of this guy?

Would he have fought in Pride or K1?

<description>Anne, thanks for starting the discussion, and thanks to all for participating! Let me see if I can provide a few answers and ideas: 1. I know it seems unbelievable, but nothing in my bio is made up. To address the question about the tango world record, I set it on Live with Regis and Kelly for Guinness, and the video is on my site. For cage fighting, I used to train and compete with Shooto fighters in Tokyo (including Kiguchi Dojo and those from the original Japan Vale Tudo),

Here is some footage of him doing BJJ. I'll let others comment on his skill level.
