    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    People who spend hrs training per day but don't fight

    This is possibly a dumb question, but I thought I would throw it out here. Do you have anyone in your gym who is there every day for like 2 hours, or coming for multiple training classes a day, but doesn't fight? There is nothing wrong with this, but one person in particular at my gym, is there more than anyone else, for pretty much every single class, but they don't do any Am. fighting. Obviously there is nothing wrong with this, but it struck me as a little odd that a person would spend 12-14 hrs average/per week (their words) training, but just do it for fun? This is a person with a day job too. Anyone have people like this at their dojo, or ever see people like this?

    What do you mean 'don't fight'?

    a.) Don't spar/roll in MA training
    b.) Don't compete in their MA
    c.) Don't pick fights with randoms?

    I do a TMA and I spar/roll but I don't compete so I may possibly be one of the people you're talking about.

    I train/workout about 10 hours a week, have a full time job. I don't do it just for fun though.

    yeah we have a guy like that. Way our gym works is theres a beginner class which is all padwork with some clinch sparring etc sometimes, and the fighters class after is all sparring and sparring drills.

    We have this one guy, turns up usually for both classes, but never spars. instead he does bagwork (with lots of fancy kicking) and never competes either. I dunno, just seems odd, like someone turning up to rugby practice but never competing against another team

    Maybe this person is only training for self-defense and not sport?

    Well I don't know why the rules don't apply to him but if you are in the sparring class you have to fight if one is offered up. If you want to play self defense theres a TKD club down the road which can teach you how to disarm a knife with a flying kick.

    I used to train 35-40 hrs per week and didnt compete. That was a long time ago, before some torn ligaments put paid to it. Now thats healed i just dont have the time anymore. Im lucky to get in 3 or 4 hours a week now

    why didnt you compete pong? too afraid of the big mean islanders from auckland? (thats why i stay at my weight)

    1). Im too old.
    2). I cant punch with my right hand. I busted it badly years ago and all it takes is one or two solid hits and I can barely use it for weeks.
    3). I am a really sucky fighter.
    4). I am a tremendous physical coward. Im afraid of my own shadow. Then again, most people who see my shadow get pretty timid pretty quick.... its like a bulbous inverted hour glass with all three chins visible.
    5). I smoke and drink too much
    6). Out islanders are tougher than yours
