TKD calls out MMA

I think the idea here is to separate BS from a simply different value system. BS is claiming that MMA people are thugs, or that TMA guys are pansies, or making generally false statements to enhance your own school. Anyone who thinks a school or even an entire style sucks simply because of what people say its "values" are is full of **** themselves.

Oh yes, it's definitely worth noting that Ran Zohar, the author of this "Consumer Report," is running a school that, on first glance, seems very much like a McDojo. I won't go as far as saying that his school IS a McDojo, but there certainly is a lot of questionable material on the school's website, such as 8-year-old black belts, a babysitting/camp program ("Ninja Camp"), Karate Birthday Parties, over-emphasis on teaching "life skills" and less emphasis on self-defense, etc.

It's possible that this school is simply giving students false confidence and a false sense of security, based on the students' perception of their own (untested) skills. Since non-violence is strongly emphasized by this school, their students may very well not know how to deal with and react against an aggressive attacker in a real-life scrape. If I were a parent, I would feel very uncomfortable sending my children to a school like this.

So let me see if I can give a basic run down of that 12 pages of **** I just read.

-MMA students are all thugs. If you don't want your kid to become a thug they should take TKD at my school. If they take MA at a school that has a separate MMA program it won't matter that it's separate, they'll still become thugs.

-MA is about a bunch of hippy crap (philosophy, traditional values, ethics, conflict resolution) it's not really about being able to fight or heaven forbid actually defend yourself if necessary. His school is great because he teaches the hippy crap.

-Contracts are a good thing!! They make your kid stay even when he hates it (yeah right). Any school that doesn't have contracts and lets you pay month to month is BAD!!!

-Schools that compete a lot are BAD!!!

He did at least get a few things right.;

-Watch a class first and see if it's the kind of place you want your child learning in.
-Check out the credentials of the instructor
-If the art being taught sounds exotic, google it! Again research it before you sign up to make sure it's not bullshit.
-Does the instructor seem capable of teaching the skills that you want your child to learn.

It basically came off as it was supposed to, as a marketing pamphlet. I hope some "thug" MMA guy steps in and crams one of these pamphlets down his throat.

I stopped reading at "Schools that compete a lot are BAD!!!" to go sign up. All my boys from ultimate frisbee would be into this too.

He makes some decent points (Why would a doctor be moonlighting as a karate instructor) but the slavery to the "Asian Martial arts are the only true Martial arts" cause any of his good points to be flushed down the crapper.
