ESPN's Simmons says "Boxing is almost down for the count"
In this Bill Simmons ESPN article he rather matter of factly admits the decline of boxing's public relevancy, calling the Mayweather - De La Hoya fight the last big fight (with some caveats of course). I like the bitterly amusing way he lists the current top 10 boxers with big public draw.
Towards the end of the article he looks at the UFC's organizational model as something he wishes were present in boxing. I wonder though , as many of us have, how long before the MMA scene becomes corrupted by the sharks that infest boxing. Say what you will about Dana White, but if he and his associates can keep the MMA sporting organization relatively transparent and honest, that would combine with his rejuvenation of the UFC to make a long lasting positive legacy.
