    Grappler's Knee

Every time my knee touches the mat, it stings like crazy, I've tried to put on wrestling knee pads, but it still stings like crazy!

Does anyone else have this problem?

    Why does it happen?

What can I do to stop it?

I have the exact same thing. I have had it for 6 weeks. It has been getting better. I use a heat pad on it at night and I used a nerve stimulator on my patella tendon.

Oh yeah, I call that "the last 15 years of my life." Get used to it.

but why is it so tender, I'm just barely touching the mat after all. I'm only 21 years old for goodness sakes!

Your description is lacking... is the stinging sensation isolated to your skin? or is it something that feels deeper in your knee? I'm going to assume that it's your skin.

The skin on your knee is used to being so pampered by fabrics, it's not conditioned to be able to withstand serious friction.

Kinda funny.... I went to wrestling practice lastnight and went for a high crotch to double and I always shoot with one knee on the ground and as I went for the high crotch my whole leg felt like it went numb and I couldnt hold myself up with it so when I did the shot I planted my face into the mat causing some nasty mat burn lol..........anyways I was wondering if anyones leg has ever just stopped working during practice or felt like it because Iwanna know if this is a serious problem

Sounds like joint issues to me. Your knee swell w/o a noticable size difference. As in you wouldn't be able to tell just by looking at it. But apply pressure to any part of the knee in this aggrivated condition and you'll damned sure feel it.

Try a glucosamine / chondroitin supplament. I have with good results. But then again it may just all be in my head. Definetly try an anti-inflamitory regiment along with hot/cold therapy (frozen peas on the knee for 15min then a hot water bottle for 15min and repeat for 1 hour). Ifit keeps up see a doctor.

On a lighter note. If it's just raw skin then wrap it and man up. Keep it clean with soap n water and let it air at night. A big mistake many make when dealing with abrasions is to drown it in atibacterial ointment. Wounds need air to heal (and I aint talking about a freakin sucking chest wound or anythng serious you smart asses).
